PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
