Cars in German Town Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were contacted by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him without words and had to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
